Futurity for Beginners
- What is a futurity?
The futurity is a halter show of eligible offspring up to 36 months of age of CLAA registered herdsires that are subscribed through the stud service auction. Prize money and ribbons are awarded to the winners. - How do my alpacas become eligible for the futurity?
In order for your alpacas to be eligible, their sire must be subscribed through the stud service auction. Sires are subscribed by receiving a minimum bid of $1,000.00 in the stud service auction. All the CLAA registered progeny under 36 months of age are then eligible for that years futurity. See the Eligibility Flowchart - How do I get my herdsire subscribed?
In order to subscribe a stud you must first nominate the stud for the stud service auction. There are three ways to achieve subscription:- Pre Auction Self Subscription - Pay $1,500.00 to automatically subscribe the stud before the auction begins.
- Auction - Let the stud stand for auction. If the stud receives a bid for at least $1,000.00 they will be subscribed. The successful bidder receives a breeding. The cria resulting from that breeding will be eligible for the CNASF East Futurity Show when it reaches the appropriate age even if the sire is not subscribed that year.
- Post Auction Subscription - If your stud does not receive a bid of $1,000.00 you can subscribe them after the auction is complete for a $1,000.00 fee.
- I don't own the herdsire but would like to enter one of his offspring.
In order to make your alpaca eligible, their sire must be subscribed through the stud service auction. Only the owner of the sire may nominate him for the stud auction. You will need to contact the herdsire owner to request them to nominate their stud. If the stud receives the minimum $1,000.00 bid, he becomes subscribed and all of his CLAA registered offspring under 36 months become eligible for the current years futurity. - What is the benefit to the subscribed stud owner?
The stud of prize winning offspring in the futurity receives acknowledgement of his proven ability to produce award winning progeny. As well, the owner of the subscribed stud will receive a percentage of the prize money.
